what do people here think about "sporty" cars today?

I like the BRZ/FRS. Like a go kart on the track only lacking 20-30whp. Very simplistic (no auto dimming rearview and a cloth strap for the shoulder belt holder for example). I love those cars for track duty. It's a pretty good backup car since I can't afford the 458

Since there seems to be a good bit of old-school sensibility here, I think I'll pose this.

What do people think of today's flavor of "sporty" cars? Personally, I find myself increasingly ambivalent about new cars starting a couple years ago.

Aesthetically, I think today's cars are pretty ugly. I like some of the styling elements, for example BMW's "flame surfacing" or whatever they call it now, and Mazda's done a nice job with the new 3. But the overall profiles and proportions of today's cars are ugly, IMO. All I see are high beltlines, bulgy hoods and blunt noses. I'll admit it works on cars like the Chrysler 300.
But for example:
E90 > F30 3 series
G35 > G37
evolution of the Audi A4 and Acura TL
Mercedes C class (not that Id ever buy a Mercedes, but the previous gen C class has a nice profile, IMO.)

The current models are all uglier than previous models.

Curious what others think here?
