If I were in your shoes, I would just find a gauge cluster at a junkyard and
swap it in.
On my '93 NX, I installed a cluster from Jay Stewart's brother's car using
instructions from one of George Roffe's (still here, Geo?) old posts.  The
car only "gained" 4k miles and now I have a working trip odo. again.
