I've had a few CV boots go, and didn't notice until the joint started making noise. I haven't replaced a joint yet - just repack and put on a new boot. As long as you don't grind for too long, it should be ok. I've done the work myself once, but I usually just take the car to a shop to have it done. It's not very expensive. Neall. '93 G20 turbo
