North Carolina (roads)

Nearby Cherahola Skyway is also heavily
patrolled and the road has an artificially
low speed limit.

I only get to go up there once a year
now that I live in Michigan, but in all
 the times I have been up there, the
first time I ever saw a cop on one of
thos roads was a couple of weeks ago.
He was on US19 (I think) near the
Nantahala raft-launch places. There
are some of those roads that have
remarkably high speed limits, too.

When I drive up there I drive quickly
 but not really fast, so I don't worry
 about cops much. It is a public road,
 after all. Nice thing about the SE-R
 (obligatory content! :) ) is that you
 don't have to drive insanely fast to
 have fun. I am also  mindful of the
consequences of things, esp. after a
friend of mine was involved in a
serious crash on his bicycle (he was
up there to do a century ride with
friends) near Dahlonega - a motorcycle
 that entered a turn too fast dropped
and slid arounda  bend on the wrong
side of the road, plowing into them
with about a 60mph closing speed. Not
 a happy outcome.

My favorites are US28 between Highlands
 and Franklin (stop and swim in the
swimming hole!) and the unnumbered
(on my map - it's got a name but I
don't remember it) that starts at US19
 south of 28 and 129, and goes to
Frankllin.
