We still did them in the early 70's (in rural Nebraska) due to the
Strategic Air Command being located in Omaha which was considered target
#1.  They even handed out the little booklets that showed how your dad
would make a fallout shelter by digging a hole in the back yard and
covering up with doors taken out of your house.  Man I'm glad I don't
have to raise my daughters in a world like that.
