From davidpertuz at mindspring.com Mon Mar 1 10:02:18 2010 From: davidpertuz at mindspring.com (David Pertuz) Date: Mon, 01 Mar 2010 10:02:18 -0600 Subject: jump packs and trickle chargers Message-ID: <4B8BE50A.8050106@mindspring.com> Thought maybe I'd wake the list up from its nap with a question. I could use another portable jump pack. Something like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=39954 I went out the other day to see if my car would start - it wouldn't - and this topic naturally came to mind. I drive my G20 quite seldom, since I bike virtually everywhere in the city and don't leave it much except for trips to Detroit, and besides that I was out of the country for three weeks. Whereas my Fiat will start up just fine after sitting all winter, my G20 may have a very small current drain in the radio circuit that makes the car impossible to start after a few weeks. I actually have one that I've had for years, but some years ago the battery apparently died and I don't know how to recharge it or replace it. Like a lot of things these days, it does not appear to be user-serviceable. Any easy way to revive the jump pack I have? I suppose hooking it up to a trickle charger would work, eh? Or I could just get a trickle charger for the G20. Any of these products in particular that y'all find are particularly good? Repairable is nice. I don't like disposable products. It should. I know on one of mine I need to keep an eye on it and recharge it every once in a while but on the other, I can leave it plugged in and it'll prevent it from overcharging. For tenders, I got one a few years ago from Sears for like $25 and it works great despite the practically dead battery in my SE-R. Much more than leaving the car sitting 2-3 days and the battery goes dead. I got another from Harbor Freight for $60 or $70 a few months ago that actually does a quick overcharge to allow you to bring a completely dead battery up to enough charge to start it. Well, sure enough a few weeks ago I went to start the SE-R and the Sears tender was on 6V so the battery was dead. I plugged the quick charge in and within 5 minutes I was able to start the car. kieran From davidpertuz at mindspring.com Mon Mar 1 10:26:04 2010 From: davidpertuz at mindspring.com (David Pertuz) Date: Mon, 01 Mar 2010 10:26:04 -0600 Subject: P10 G20 radios Message-ID: <4B8BEA9C.4090701@mindspring.com> Speaking of radios and G20s, does anybody have any spare working radio/CD players for a '96 P10 lying around? The CD player in my car, always a bit dodgy when it comes to loading CDs, quit working completely recently. my iPod and an FM tuner takes care of entertainment on road trips, but I'd like another deck so that I can have a working CD player and so that I have a spare to hack an AUX plug into so I can ditch the FM tuner. I specify '96 because I don't take for granted that plug pin-outs stay the same from year to year. They didn't on the B13. And the tender I got http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02871219000P?mv=rr is the same price and will *PROBABLY* last longer than something from Harbor Freight. If you go this wrote this is the one I have: http://alnk.org/1sappylizard A bit more pricey then the ones Kieran posted but Griots *had* and may still have a lifetime warranty on theirs. I had the older version and it stopped working. I could have replaced it for free but I chose to get my money back as currenlty I only need one tender in the garage. My only complaint is that if you have a powerfailure you have to reset it. The but I have the hood popped on the car and I walk thru my garage daily so I just glance at it from time to time. > Any of these products in particular that y'all find are particularly > good? Repairable is nice. I don't like disposable products. Not repairable by you but hey if they replace it who cares? Purchasing the Gulfstream G550 with you was one of them. Not only did we get a great airplane, we got a great price and the deal went extremely smoothly.
